Our stance on timber and sustainable sourcing

freedom regards ethical timber sourcing as a high priority for the business and aims to comply with the relevant legislation regarding timber sourcing.

Steps we're taking:

Freedom is committed to identifying the source of timber materials that are used in the manufacturing of our furniture products, and we will take reasonable measures to ensure that the timber materials used meet the following requirements:

  • comes from a known source
  • sourced legally
  • sourced from species not listed as threatened
  • not sourced from conflict timber
  • not sourced from high conservation areas
  • comes with documentation proving legality and source

Freedom's suppliers are required to provide documentation regarding the timber materials used in their furniture products.

Where are we now?

freedom has implemented an Ethical Timber Sourcing Policy (ETSP).

We are working closely with our local and international suppliers, with the goal of having all timber materials used in the production of furniture credibly and ethically sourced from legal and sustainable forest operations.

This work is ongoing and our team at freedom is continually reviewing our policies to ensure all goals are achieved.

Good Weave.

freedom is a proud partner of GoodWeave, ensuring our rugs are made by adult artisans, not children. GoodWeave is ending child labor and offering educational opportunities to children in carpet weaving communities around the world. GoodWeave fulfills its mission by creating market demand for certified child-labor-free rugs, monitoring supply chains, rescuing and educating child laborers, and providing critical services for weaving families.

The handmade carpet industry exploits nearly 250,000 children. GoodWeave is helping to combat this problem and transform the rug industry by certifying child-labour-free rugs and by providing education and opportunities to rescued and at-risk children. Manufacturers must meet their high certification standards and agree to random, independent inspections to earn the GoodWeave label. We are proud to say that all the handmade rugs sold by Freedom hold this standard.

  • The GoodWeave label displays a unique number, which can be traced back to the producer.
  • The GoodWeave label means that a percentage of the rug’s price is used to educate children in the weaving communities of South Asia.
  • GoodWeave is the only rug certification program that rescues children from looms.
  • GoodWeave has rescued nearly 3,600 child labourers and prevented thousands more from carpet work.
  • The GoodWeave label ensures the highest quality and craftsmanship of skilled adult artisans.
  • GoodWeave provides rescued children with rehabilitation, education and vocational training.
  • We have partnered with GoodWeave because we are committed to the highest standards of integrity in the industry.
