Mattress keeping you up at night?

At Freedom, we believe everyone deserves the luxury of a great night's sleep. To guarantee sweet dreams and ensure you wake up feeling your best, our sleep experts recommend replacing your mattress regularly.

A comfortable mattress means a great night's sleep, which means you can start your day better rested, more refreshed, and less stressed.

Because a great night's sleep is worth it.

Four great reasons to replace your mattress:

At 7-8 hours a night, we spend roughly a third of our lives in bed. Whether you like it hard, soft, or somewhere in between, regular mattress updates mean never losing sleep over a lumpy, uneven, or comfortable sleep surface.

A 2009 study found that sleeping on a newer mattress significantly improved sleep quality and reduced back discomfort. Investing in a great night's sleep means you can start your day more refreshed and less stressed.

While you're sleeping, your body can shed up to 12 million dead skin flakes, many of which end up on your mattress. So, along with moisture loss, over time your mattress can become a breeding ground for uninvited guests like dust mites and bacteria.

Like your mattress, we're here to support you. If your mattress is keeping you up at night, 'toss' it, and 'turn' to the cloud-like comfort of a Freedom mattress. Because a great night's sleep is worth it.

FAQs:

How often should I change my mattress?

Mattresses don’t come with an expiry date and every mattress (and sleeper!) is different. But because your sleep quality on even the very best mattress will diminish over time, our experts recommend replacing your mattress, on average, every 8 years.

How do I know when I need a new mattress?

How long your mattress lasts depends on a few factors, like the quality of your mattress, which materials were used, and your (or your partner’s) weight and sleeping style. Ask yourself, are you sleeping well? Do you wake up feeling refreshed? Spend too much time tossing and turning? If your mattress is 7+yrs old, it may be time to consider a new mattress.

How can I make my mattress last longer?

Like most things in life, a little TLC can go a long way. You should always follow your mattress manufacturer’s guidelines, however regular mattress care might include routine cleaning and airing and regularly rotating or flipping your mattress. Plus, we always recommend using a quality mattress protector.

How do I choose the best mattress for me?

Outside of personal preference, let your body weight and sleeping position be your guide to choosing the best mattress for you. Lightweight sleepers will generally tolerate a softer mattress, whereas heavier people may prefer a more supportive mattress. Your sleeping style will also help determine which is the perfect mattress for you and your body.

How often should I change my sheets?

While it may vary depending on your lifestyle, the season, or who you share your bed with, most experts agree that you should be changing your sheets at least every 2 weeks. Aside from the toxins and skin cells your body releases each night, not changing your sheets regularly exposes you to other nasties such as fungi and bacteria.

How do I clean my mattress?

We recommend you always follow your mattress manufacturer’s guidelines regarding the care of your mattress. Never steam clean your mattress! Air your mattress regularly. Vacuuming will remove loose dust, hair, and dirt. Light stains can be spot cleaned by gently blotting with dish soap or stain remover. After vacuuming, a dusting of baking soda (left for a few hours) will absorb any remaining moisture and odours. Don’t forget to vacuum it up afterwards!

What size mattress do I need?

When it comes to beds and mattresses, as well as style, feel, and quality, size really does matter. For most people, a new mattress is a big investment, so choosing the right size bed and mattress for your needs and space is important. Refer to our easy guide to choosing the right size mattress.

What’s the best mattress for couples?

If you want to avoid disagreements and wake up next to your partner feeling rested and refreshed, it's important to choose the best mattress for you as a couple. Make sure your mattress is big enough for both of you, choose a mattress designed to minimise partner disturbance, and make sure you’re both actively involved in the decision-making process.
