The humble coat hanger is often overlooked as an important part of your storage and organisation kit, but they’re key to keeping closets tidy and clothes in good shape.

If you’re replacing all your coat hangers, choose the wooden option where possible. Wire coat hangers lose their shape easily and can stretch fabric. Plastic coat hangers break easily under heavy clothes like coats. The wooden option maintains the right form so that jerseys, jackets and shirts keep their original shape and protects them against forming wrinkles. If you have an open wardrobe, wooden hangers are a must!

Some hangers are specifically designed for certain clothing items. Skirt hangers have grips on each hanger to lightly pinch the material from the waist so that the skirt is hung in a straight line. This avoids sagging in the middle when hung by the cotton threads inside the skirt. The arms of the hangers then still allow for jackets to be hung along with the skirts, maximising wardrobe space.
