How to decorate your home for the holidays
Nothing says Christmas like a well decorated house. Leave the singing Santa in the box and go for a more stylish look this year, and create your look by using one or 2 complementary accent colours throughout your house. Make sure your Christmas colour scheme harmonises with or incorporates a colour that already exists in the room, and everything will tie together beautifully.
Step away from traditional greens and reds with delightful purples, mauves and silvers. Another contemporary alternative is crisp white and silver with fresh cool mint green. You can even create your festive menu and ta
ble decorations around your colour scheme for a truly complete look. The simplest colour scheme that will add festivity and will go with almost all decors, is gold or silver or bronze, or even a combination of these metallic accents.
Your front door welcomes people to your house, and sets the mood of the season, so hang a wreath to greet your guests with Christmas spirit. Update a tired-looking wreath with some fresh new ribbon in your theme colour. Smaller wreaths can also be hung on internal doors,
especially on guest bedroom doors or to indicate the bathroom to visitors.
Candles always add a warm glow and can set the mood for a quiet reflective night in, a sense of drama and excitement, or a spirit of conviviality for entertaining – it all depends on the scale, number and placement of the candles. While stand-alone candles are lovely, so much more impact can be achieved with multiple collections of candles in all shapes and sizes.
